MEBLE POLSKA, Poznań

With the continuous rise in residents' health awareness and the deepening adoption of green consumption concepts, the home furnishings consumption market is rapidly shifting toward "health, environmental friendliness, and sustainability." A market visit by our reporter revealed that plywood furniture with authoritative eco-certifications, leveraging its core advantages of low carbon, zero formaldehyde, and safety, has shed its previous labels of "homogeneity" and "low added value" to become the preferred choice for consumers. This trend is also driving the plywood industry's transition from "price competition" to "value competition," opening a new chapter of high-quality development for the green home furnishings industry.

Currently, green consumption has evolved from an "optional trend" to a "universal consensus." In home furnishings consumption scenarios, keywords like "eco-friendly," "formaldehyde-free," and "low-carbon" have become central. Data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that furniture consumption by enterprises above a designated size has maintained double-digit growth in recent years, with the proportion of green and eco-friendly furniture increasing annually, serving as a core driver of consumption growth. Meanwhile, multiple policies are consistently guiding the industry's green transformation. Documents such as the "Light Industry Steady Growth Work Plan (2025–2026)" and the "Building Materials Industry Steady Growth Work Plan (2025–2026)" explicitly emphasize strengthening the green production responsibilities of the furniture industry and promoting the large-scale application of green building materials. The target for green building materials revenue is set to exceed 300 billion yuan by 2026, laying a solid policy foundation for the rise of eco-certified plywood furniture.

As a core substrate in furniture manufacturing, the environmental performance of plywood directly determines home environment safety. In the past, plywood produced by some small and medium-sized enterprises, often using inferior adhesives, faced issues such as excessive formaldehyde emissions and inconsistent environmental performance, causing consumer concern. Today, eco-certification has become the "passport" for plywood furniture to capture market share. Internationally authoritative certifications like HENF (Heating Grade), U.S. UL Gold Level, and Japan's F4 Star, along with China's ENF standard (formaldehyde emission ≤ 0.025 mg/m³), have become key reference points for consumer purchases. This, in turn, is compelling enterprises to accelerate their environmental technology upgrades.

A visit by our reporter to several home furnishing stores found a steady stream of customers at counters featuring plywood furniture labeled "ENF Grade Eco-Friendly," "Formaldehyde-Free Adhesive," or "Recyclable." The products cover various categories such as chairs, wardrobes, and dining tables. Although prices are 10% to 30% higher than those of ordinary plywood furniture, they remain popular with consumers. "With children at home, choosing eco-friendly products is a must. Seeing this plywood chair has ENF certification and third-party test reports, I decided to buy it immediately," said Ms. Wang, a citizen shopping for furniture. She emphasized that health and environmental safety have long surpassed price as the primary consideration in her home furnishing choices.
